There was this awesome interview with one of my favorite actors, Gael Garcia Bernal - who was seen recently in Rudo y Cursi, the film that reunites the Mexican actor with his friend, the talented Diego Luna.

He was asked this question:

You've described Y Tu Mamá También as being an intensely politically involved film. Do you feel the same way about Rudo Y Cursi?

He replied: I think it definitely plays a part. But not forced, it doesn't have that kind of element. It's just part of everything, you know. Everything has a political complexity, and this film has a very particular point of view that includes political commentary. But it wasn't purposely done for that, nor was Y Tu Mamá También. They end up being very political because of this element.

Garcia-Bernal is not only a fascinating and talented actor, he happens to be a social activist too - in every sense of the word. He's not the type who will simply pose for pictures with the world's dying and hungry children, but will go the distance to make himself heard. The politics of Gael Garcia Bernal is quite in-your-face and without any bullshi**, there is also a sense of urgency in what he says. In a very short time, I began to deeply admire the man's sense of decency. He is not just an actor willing to prostitute himself in the name of fame and fortune, but he is a young man with a purpose.

More on Rudo Y Cursi: The AV Club did the interview and also described the new movie as :

...an entertaining comedy-drama about a pair of nouveau riche, soccer-playing brothers, which reunites him with También co-star Diego Luna and co-writer Carlos Cuarón. (También director and co-writer Alfonso Cuarón, Carlos’ brother, co-produced Rudo Y Cursi.)

Here's what the movie is all about:

Beto (Diego Luna) and Tato (Gael García Bernal) Verdusco are brothers who work at a banana plantation and also play soccer for the village team. Nicknamed "Tough" because of his personality and football style, Beto dreams of becoming a professional soccer player; Tato's dream is to be a famous singer, and both share the dream of building a house for their mother, Elvira (Dolores Heredia). They have a change in luck when "Batuta", a soccer talent scout, discovers them accidentally. Tato is the first to move to the big city where he becomes the star goal scorer for the prestigious Deportivo Amaranto (Amaranto Club). His baroque playing style earns him the nickname of "Corny". Although Beto feels he has been betrayed and left behind, he soon travels to Mexico City to become the goalkeeper for Atlético Nopaleros (Nopaleros Team). At the peak of glory, they forget all animosity, although it does not last long. At the very real possibility of fulfilling all of their dreams, the siblings must face an innate rivalry as well as their own demons and limitations. Beto is a gambler and allows his addiction to drag him down; Tato is unable to recognize his true talents and squanders every opportunity by pursuing a false idea of celebrity and status. The dream seems to slip through their fingers. And it is at their worst moment that the brothers find forgiveness trying to help each other while casting headlong towards their individual destiny.
