London native Robert Pattinson, 22, is what some call a double threat – an actor and musician. Bitten by the acting bug at age 15, Pattinson started performing at the Barnes Theatre Company in London. This opened the door to his earlier roles such as Giselher in the television production of Ring of the Nibelungs and Rawdy Crawley in the film Vanity Fair. His role in Vanity Fair led to Pattinson being cast as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Following Harry Potter, Pattinson developed his talent further by playing in two U.K. television films. In the first film, The Haunted Airman, Pattinson was cast as lead character Toby Jugg, a disabled and traumatized World War II airman. Jugg proved to be a complex character who suffered from hallucinations, which ultimately leads to his own mental undoing.

In the second film, The Bad Mother's Handbook, he played a minor role as nerdy Daniel Gale. Pattinson brought his own sense of eccentricity, which added a truth to the character.

Pattinson continued to mold his acting career by appearing in two other U.K. projects: short film The Summer House, directed by Daisy Gili and feature film How to Be, directed by Oliver Irving.

In How to Be, he is able to tap into his musical talents by playing Art, a troubled 20-something who lives at home with a dysfunctional family.

After filming smaller roles, Pattinson signed on to play the role of vampire Edward Cullen in the film Twilight, which is based on the book of the same name by Stephenie Meyer. Pattinson told Teen Hollywood.com in August about his lack of prior knowledge to the Twilight.

He said: "I read them after my screen test. I’d never even heard of them before. Then, we were doing the movie and it got exponentially bigger and bigger and bigger, and everybody knew about it, so it was kind of strange and unexpected."

When fans of the book first discovered that Pattinson was cast as Edward Cullen, there was an immediate backlash. The criticism extended from his appearance being wrong for what they envisioned to him being involved in the rival Harry Potter series. However, after the release of the first teaser trailer, fan remarks began to turn positive. The release of the second teaser trailer pushed the frenzy of support behind Pattinson.

But even after the tides obviously changed, Pattinson remained modest about the project when asked by FearNet.com about being in one of the most highly anticipated projects of the year.

He said: "I still can't really come to terms with it. It's just strange. I'm always just sort of terrified… I'm just a good freaker-outer."

Pattinson’s continued modesty seems to make fans more interested in his upcoming roles. Taking a look at Pattinson’s body of work thus far, it might be unexpected to see him portraying the artist Salvador Dali who engages in a rumored homosexual affair with poet Federico Garcia Lorca in Little Ashes. This far cry from the roles of wizard Cedric Diggory and vampire Edward Cullen has catapulted Pattinson into the fame stratosphere. However, Pattinson told London's Evening Standard in February about his decision to take on such a controversial role.

He said: "I think some people might be a bit surprised. But I didn’t want to get stuck in pretty, public school roles, or I knew I’d end up as some sort of caricature. Playing Dali has been a complete turning point for me. It’s the first part I’ve had that has required really serious thought. I became completely obsessed with Dali during the filming, and I read every biography I could get a hold of. He was the most bizarre, complex man, but in the end I felt I could relate to him. He was basically incredibly shy."

And people have begun to notice Pattinson and his dedication to his work. As early as 2005, comparisons have been made between Pattinson and other big names in film. Teen People dubbed him the next Jude Law after his portrayal as Cedric Diggory, and more recently, the Movie-Fanatic dared to compare Pattinson to the late Heath Ledger and wrote:

"Ledger gained respect from his peers and the film industry in general for maintaining his integrity and not succumbing to the dictates of agents to play sugary teeny-bopper roles. Robert seems to have chosen to go Ledger's way - the hard way. I base my observation on the roles he has chosen which are his answer to critics who might be judging him as a handsome actor with no real talents or prospects. Like Brokeback Mountain, the upcoming Little Ashes has a gay-focused theme. There might be parallels between the two movies, but I think both movies are unique and offer different perspectives on relationships."

As an actor who has been compared to the likes of Law and the late Ledger, Pattinson is sure to gain international popularity thanks to the risks he continues to take and the depth he displays in his roles. And Little Ashes may just be the breakthrough role to make him a major player in the world of film.

I am so looking forward to seeing this film and all the others Rob will be in . I am so intrigued by his choices they are never quit waht you would expect. Saying that I was a very big fan of Heath Ledger smilies/sad.gif and many aspects of Rob do remind me of him in a very good way, so I am glad I am not the only person to see this parrallel. The both of them seem to do what they want they are not dictated by what everyone else thinks may be a money maker they do what they believe in.

This is the main reason why I personally love Robert. Its not his looks, or his fame. ITs his depth and intensity of the roles he chooses. Twilight on the outside may look like a cheap character to play, but Edward is an unbelievably deep and impossible character to play, and the fact he took that on, is incredible. I wasnt a bit surprised to find out hes playing Dali. Dali is incredibly deep person, and Rob appears to be pretty deep and modest. I lvoe that hes playing a homosexual character for one main reason: If you had 10,000+ girls obsessing over you, would you have the courage to play a gay male? I sure wouldnt. It shows that he doesnt choose his roles for money.
Over all, Rob seems to be an amazing guy, I would love to meet him.

Robert will blow people's minds with Little Ashes

I have been following Robert Pattinson's career for quite some time now. He really is the most beautiful man I've EVER seen, but more than that, his charm and appeal in REAL LIFE outshines his beauty. He has the most amazing laugh and I love it when he talks too much and shares EVERYTHING unafraid and unedited. That's so honest!
That aside.....
I'm so looking forward to LITTLE ASHES because I believe it will be a REALLY GREAT ROLE for Robert with lots of MEAT and depth of character that is EXTROVERTED depth instead of the introverted, self contained character he plays in Twilight. I will really enjoy watching Robert RELEASE EVERYTHING and LET IT ALL OUT to play this role. I think he's perfect for the role and his depth, intensity and MAJOR CHARISMA will add a lot to the character of Dali. He's both shy and yet expressive. There IS such a thing as an expressive introvert and I believe that's what Rob is in real life. We'd all love to sit and listen to Rob read Lorca's poetry to us. Wouldn't we girls? smilies/smiley.gif
Ok, I've gone too far.
I believe Twilight will get Little Ashes into A LOT more theatres!
We fans of Robert will make sure of that!
What a personality Rob has.....we believe in you Rob.
You can do anything you set your mind to.
Good luck to the whole cast and crew of Little Ashes.
I hope you win many awards.
By the way, the cinematography is SO BEAUTIFUL too.
Such an art to film making. I LOVE MOVIES!
Best of luck to all,

PS, I forgot to mention, I'm reading ALL the books on Lorca and Dali I can find also.
I already read Sebastian's Arrows and found the letters fascinating. I also got "The Symbolic world of Federico Garcia Lorca and "Federico Garcia Lorca A LIFE" which I also am loving. I also found "Federico Garcia Lorca POET IN NEW YORK" which I haven't gotten to yet. And "The Comic Spirit of Federico Garcia Lorda". BUT I WAS MOST HAPPY TO FIND A BOOK JUST called: "DALI" an ART book curated by Dawn Ades and Michael R. Taylow with assistance of Montse Aguer in association with PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART. That's all I could find on that book as far as authors. It's an AMAZING book that tells Dali's story and how EACH PICTURE came into being and then EXPLAINS the MEANINGS of EVERYTHING in each painting. You can even see that Lorca's head was put into some paintings. I got to see the painting "LITTLE ASHES" that way too. SO UNIQUE. I love eccentric artists. I'm a musician myself and so I'm fascinated by the arts and talent. DALI and LORCA's story is beautiful and I think you all have explored their love in such an elegant way we all will fall in love with them too. Love is love. It's beautiful!
Thanks for sharing your art with us and good luck with LITTLE ASHES.

Way to go Robert

I must say that I tip my hat to Mr. Pattinson. I've seen him in Harry Potter, the Haunted Airman, and of course, in Twilight. I've read all the books of Twilight including the partial draft of Midnight Sun (his character's, Edward, point of view) and I admire that he chose to read it as well (I believe). It's the perfect thing to read to truly understand your character. His devotion and work into knowing everything about the characters he partakes in is impressive and truly how it should be done. I don't underestimate Robert in the slightest. Edward Cullen is a very complicated, profound, passionate, and gentleman like character. I saw Edward Cullen in every facial expression and emotion portrayed through Robert's face in the movie and his acting was superb. Even better, his eyes spoke numbers to me. You could tell his expression and emotions so profoundly just by looking at his eyes. Amazing.

As for Little Ashes, I really wish to see this film. The fact that it is an independent film confirms for me that Robert is not all about the big show and money. He's more into the art of acting. I've seen many of his interviews and he seems so down to earth and just fiddles with whatever he has. He doesn't let fame corrupt him. He is shy and modest, but expressive. Funny enough, he reminds me of me which gives me a better understanding of him. All in all, I've wanted to see him partake a gay role and it looks like I just might. I want to see if there's any difference in his chemistry or acting because of such a role. And I have the strongest feeling that there won't be a difference.

I've always admired those actors who aren't the typical Hollywood big shot: Gale Harold, Stuart Townsend, Gerard Butler, Heath Ledger, and of course, Robert Pattinson. Even Daniel Radcliffe, considering the projects he's taken on.

A thought of course, I'd love to have the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with Robert.

Thanks Robert, for your wonderful performances.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL THE CAST AND CREW...ESPECIALLY ROBERT!
written by debbo-FL, December 16, 2008
Hey!
I can't wait to see this movie. It just looks so beautiful and the acting so well done. I am excited and can't wait to hear where it will be shown in my Fort Lauderdale, Florida area! Please keep us all posted. I signed up for your mailing list to know!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU!!!! FANS AND CAST AND CREW TOO! smilies/smiley.gif
However, for Rob fans.....
I think we’ll be going through “Rob withdrawls” until he starts shooting his new film in January. After all the press and Twilight selling he’s done the last year, he’s only got like two weeks to rest up before another movie starts filming. If I were Rob, I’d be filling my fridge with pepperoni and sausage hot pockets, coke-a-cola and I’d never leave my apartment for two weeks and START STUDYING MY SCRIPT! However, the whole world wants a piece of Robert. He must really be tired! HE GAVE AT THE OFFICE! As much as I will miss my daily FIX of Robert to soothe my Rob obsession, I wish him a Merry Christmas and much peace and relaxation and QUIET TIME of which I know he loves. I'm a loner too, I need to renew too. And he definitely WORKED HARD. NOBODY could have worked as hard to sell a movie as Rob did! I hope he will help push LITTLE ASHES too! PEACE AND LOVE TO YOU ROB! YOUR SMILE AND LAUGHTER HAS MADE US ALL VERY HAPPY! Remember that! We all make a difference. You all give people joy with your art! THANK YOU TO ALL! I can't wait to see LITTLE ASHES! smilies/smiley.gif)))))))))

I am a huge Rob Pattinson fan. Although the Twilight books and then the movie got me started, I am now devoted to watching Rob's career. He seems so genuine and always has patience with his fans. I so look forward to seeing Little Ashes because I know Rob's acting will enhance the film. His dedication to the film he is doing is evident with the way he helped promote Twilight and I know this can only help Little Ashes. Please pass on my joy to him and wish all of you a very Happy Holiday Season.
I'm so excited for you Rob!

I am a huge fan of twightlight I know me and my mom seen the movie everysingle night it played. And we we're sad went it left . However I am a bigger fan of Rob Pattinson too. I am also a Harry potter fan, and that is where I first saw his adorable face. Then when I watched twighlight OMG! I think my heart stopped beating he was breathless, and his acting, they could have never picked anyone else to play this role but him. He was awesom. And his character really draws you in. Now I can't wait to see new moon and hopefully the other books too. And I am dedicated to see everything has done and will do. He has amazed me!!! And his eyes, I could fall asleep everynight with a pic of those eyes in my mind. you are adorable and brilliant, I can't wait to see more of you. more than that I would love to meet you.
Hope you have a happy holiday, you deserve it for bringing happiness to all of us fans. thank you so much, can't wait to see little ashes!
